Sherman Houston Cooper, 74, was born on June 19, 1949 in Paris, TX to Theo and Frances (Reeves) Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Cooper-Tims; grandchildren, Cody Alicia and Colton Phelps and Lucas and Elizabeth Hobbs; brothers, Billy Cooper, Leroy Cooper and Daniel Cooper; sister, Leola Abbott.

Sherman was a lifelong resident of Rufe, OK and a 1968 graduate of Valliant High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed at Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA. Sherman was assigned to the USS Coral Sea. After serving in the military, he worked 27 years as a maintenance technician for Brown and Root Construction, then went on to retire from the paper mill at Valliant. Sherman was an avid reader; Louis Lamour and William Johnston were two of his favorite authors. He also loved going hunting and fishing when he could. Family was very important to Sherman. He was known for saying, "All you got is your family, take care of them." Sherman will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sherman is survived by his son, Eugene Cooper and fiancé, Angeles of Houston, TX; daughter, Victoria Cooper-Phelps and husband Michael of Valliant, OK; grandchildren, Ashley Churchwell, Katelynn Cooper, Payton Cooper, Jonathon Phelps and Jordan Phelps; great grandchildren, Mikel, Josie, Braxton, Pepper and Raelee; brother, Charles Cooper of Rufe, Ok; sister, Lanney Rhea and husband, Richard of Little Rock, AR; brother-in-law, Carl Abbott; sister-in-law, Phyllis Cooper; numerous nieces and nephews; along with a host of other friends, family and loved ones.
