Richard H. Johnston was born on March 28, 1936, in Monet, Missouri, the son of Harold and Mable Johnston. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Lieutenant Colonel Richard H. Johnston, USA, Retired, passed on July 19, 2022.

Richard attended the University of Missouri, and was class president, commander of the ROTC Drill Team, president of the University Singers and member of Acacia Fraternity. Through his love of musical theatre, he met his wife, Patsy Jo Needham. After graduation, Dick joined the U.S. Army and the two started their life together in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He began his career as an Artillery Officer and later transferred to Military Intelligence after an assignment on the East/West German border. Dick served two tours in Vietnam, receiving the Legion of Merit with one Bronze leaf oak cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star and one Bronze Service Star. After 26 years of military service, Dick retired and joined Martin Marietta Aeronautics in Denver, Colorado, retiring after 15 years of service. He then began work for FEMA in the disaster assistance program, his third and final retirement began in 2005.

Throughout their lives Dick and Pat participated in countless musical, comedy and drama productions as director, actor and makeup artist. Dick's gift of a beautiful tenor voice and his love of music was contagious, frequently he would burst out in song at home, church or in public. He passed away just shy of their 63 ^rd wedding anniversary, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard is survived by his wife, Pat of the home in Aurora, CO; son, David and his wife Ann of Crested Butte, CO; daughter Darian and grandson Ely of Denver, CO; brother-in-law, Butch Needham and his wife Brenda of Hugo, OK.
