George "Mac" Malcom Golden, 83, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024 in Paris, TX.

Mac was born on October 3, 1940, in Ft. Towson, OK, the son of Leo and Lula B. Golden. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Julie Kay (Maxwell) Golden and sister, Betty Buckmaster.

Mac grew up in Grant, OK and graduated from Grant High School in 1959. During high school, he developed a love for basketball and was a star athlete. Mac proudly served in the US Army and Army National Guard and went on to graduate from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1969. He then began teaching at Hugo Jr. High before moving to Hugo High School. During his teaching career, Mac taught history and drivers ed and was the high school varsity basketball coach and assistant football coach. Mac married Linda Lou Bush on July 1, 1966, in Hugo, OK. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in his role as dad to Greg and Lea Ann.

Throughout his 49-year career as an insurance salesman, Mac made significant contributions to Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance and was the third most tenured agent in the company's history at the time of his passing. Shortly after beginning his career in the insurance industry, Mac became agency manager earning every accolade awarded by the company along with Western Farm Bureau's Manager of the Year. He is considered to be the most successful agency manager due to his knack for hiring the most productive agents. He earned over 15 All-Stars which is the top 4% of Farm Bureau's agents in a multi-state life insurance company. He was among the first recipients to be inducted into the Farm Bureau Life Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 1997. Aside from all of the honors he received, his biggest honor was serving his clients.

Apart from his achievements in his career, Mac enjoyed a fulfilling personal life. He enjoyed watching sports (especially Oklahoma State and New York Yankees), traveling with his family, and bringing joy and laughter to those around him with his stories and jokes. Mac's funny sense of humor and his optimistic outlook on life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Mac lived a life filled with love, purpose, and dedication to his family and community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandparent, and friend and his love and guidance will be dearly missed.

Mac is survived by his wife, Linda Golden of Hugo, OK; son, Greg Golden of Edmond, OK; daughter, Lea Ann Reed and husband, Brandon of Glenpool, OK; granddaughter, Mackenzie Golden and fiancé, Chris Kauble of Edmond, OK; two grandsons, Pepper Reed and Lewton Reed and brother, Ed Golden, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mac Golden Scholarship that will be awarded to a Hugo High School athlete in his honor.
