Obituary

Dorothy "Jewel" Davis Stubbs was born on June 8, 1946, in Ringold, Oklahoma, to Joe Miller Davis and Minnie Jewel Johnson Davis. She departed this life leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, service, and devotion to family.

Jewel is survived by her son, Joe Stubbs (Lily), and daughter, Jackie Stubbs; her beloved grandchildren, Victoria and Cheyanne Hamilton, and Joseph and Jebidiah Stubbs; her sisters, Hattie Harmon, Darlene White, and Claudia Tom; her brother, George Davis; her sister-in-law, Jane Stubbs; her brother-in-love, Buster Hatcher; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her son, "Little Darwin" Stubbs; the love of her life, Claude "Doug" Hatcher; her brothers, Virgil Davis, James Davis, and Lynn Davis; her sisters, Myrtle Bullock, Helen Fennell, and Ada Ensey; her brothers-in-law, Donnie and Darrel Stubbs; her sister-in-law, Ruthie Stubbs Blocker; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Nicholas and baby Hamilton.

Jewel grew up in Ringold, Oklahoma, and attended Valliant High School. In 1963, she married Darwin Stubbs, and together they welcomed three children: Little Darwin, Joe, and Jackie.

Throughout her life, Jewel wore many hats. She worked as a waitress, seamstress, cake decorator, homemaker, and caregiver. No matter the role, her greatest joy was always her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dogs, who brought her endless happiness.

Jewel had a servant's heart and spent much of her life helping others. While her children attended school in Rattan, Oklahoma, she volunteered with 4-H, FHA, and FFA. After moving to North Carolina, she continued serving her community through local food banks, the Waccamaw Tribe, AA, Al-Anon, and by always lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends. If someone needed help, Jewel was often the first to show up.

She was a devoted fan of Tom Selleck, George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Ray Price. Jewel loved music, dancing, and celebrating life. She cheered passionately for the Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers, but anyone who knew her also knew she had little affection for the Dallas Cowboys.

Jewel found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved garage sales, family reunions, parties of every kind, and making special memories with her granddaughters at the beach. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where her outgoing personality and love of fun fit right in.

Although she grew to love the Carolinas, she always said Oklahoma was home. One of the many ways she expressed her love was through her cooking and baking. Her Christmas candy and peanut butter cookies became cherished family traditions, and she made sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed them every year.

Jewel loved being surrounded by family and friends and was happiest when she could make people laugh. She never met a stranger, loved being the center of attention, and could bring warmth, humor, and conversation to any gathering.

In 1995, Jewel met the love of her life, Claude "Doug" Hatcher. She joined him on the road, traveling the country in his truck and seeing places she had only dreamed of visiting. Together they eventually retired and rebuilt a home in Hamlet, North Carolina, where they shared many happy years until Doug's passing.

Jewel's life was defined by her unwavering love for family, her generous spirit, and her ability to make every gathering brighter. She leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories and a family who will continue to share her stories, laugh at her jokes, and honor the love she so freely gave.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew her.

"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and forever dear."
