Clarence J. McDaniel, 93, went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2026, passing on from this life in Hugo, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loving family.

Clarence was born March 3, 1933, in a covered wagon in Greenville, Texas, the son of John Leonard McDaniel and Mattie (Martin) McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Attaway; grandson, Kevin Attaway; great-granddaughter, Shay'La Lennox; brothers, Leonard McDaniel, Carl McDaniel, Troy McDaniel and Hubert McDaniel; and sisters, Birdie Harger, Geraldine Adams Hill, and Ola Mae McDaniel.

Clarence lived 93 years the way a cowboy ought to—loving his family, his cattle, the land, and the ranching life. He was a lifelong rancher, trading cattle and horses his whole life. Clarence was probably the oldest cowboy still making the rounds at the sale barns around Hugo. He had been around the cattle business so long that he could tell you a story about every sale barn owner. Clarence had seen a lot of cattle run through those rings and a lot of people come and go.

Clarence was a character in every sense of the word. He loved a good joke, loved people, and never met a stranger. And he was always a bit of a flirt. He liked to say, "My daddy always told me to shake all the men's hands and hug all the women." And he certainly took that advice to heart.

Clarence lived a long, full life with plenty of stories to tell, cattle to tend, people to tease, hands to shake, and women to hug. They just don't make cowboys quite like him anymore. The sale barns won't be quite the same without him.

Rest easy, Cowboy. Your work here is done.

Clarence is survived by his loving family; his beloved wife of 74 years, Lajaun (Davis) McDaniel of the home; children, Gary McDaniel and wife, Joyce, Annette (McDaniel) Boling and husband, Mike; and Ken McDaniel and wife, Dawn; sister, Joyce Holt; grandchildren, Stephanie Dunham, Shawn Attaway, Jessica Schober and Dusty, Patty Attaway, Brett McDaniel, Ray Dunham and Shirley, Brandon McDaniel and Chelby; great grandchildren, Jaden and Lauren Davidson, Weston and Ashton Attaway, Daiquan and Keyontre Lennox, Sadie, Emmie, Finlie, and Garron Schober, Gary, Jace, and Gabriel Dunham, Grayson and Parker Ann McDaniel, Destiny, Braydon, Zachary, Oliver, and Braxton McDaniel; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
