Barney DeWayne Nicholas, 78, was born on February 6, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of John Nicholas and Gwen (McCurdy) Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eldon Nicholas and Wesley Nicholas.

Barney lived most of his life in the Spencerville area. He joined the United States Army in 1965 and proudly served his country. His military career took him through three tours in Vietnam and was later stationed at Fort Knox where he was activated for Desert Storm. Barney earned several commendations during his time in the Army, and he retired after 20 years of dedicated service. He later worked at Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas where his positions varied from distribution to forklift operator then retired after 23 years. Most of his life, Barney enjoyed ranching and woodworking.

Barney married his beloved wife, Linda (Mashburn) Nicholas, on August 15 1969, in Hugo, Oklahoma. Together, they built a wonderful life full of family and memories. Above all, Barney cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, and granddad. He loved his family deeply and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.

Barney is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Nicholas; sons, Joseph Nicholas and wife, Anna of Spencerville, OK and Troy Nicholas and wife, Tammi of Mustang, OK; brother, Denver Nicholas and wife, Connie of Ben Wheeler, TX; sisters, Evelyn Syposs and husband, Dave of Tucson, AZ and Carol "Diane" Brown and husband, Larry of Spencerville, OK; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
